Do you provide presets for scalping, intraday, or swing trading?
Hi there!
Thank you for your interest in the Skew Volatility Bias Indicator.
While the indicator is designed to be highly adaptable and work across various timeframes and asset classes, we provide a general guideline for how to configure the indicator for different trading styles:
- Scalping (e.g., 1m – 5m Charts)
Approach: Focus on quick, sharp volatility spikes.
Recommended Settings:
Use shorter lookback periods for the adaptive averages to make the Skew line more responsive.
Filter/Threshold: Look for a higher threshold to avoid noise (e.g., Skew > 1.15 or SkewOsc > 0.2) before entering a position.
Regime: Rely primarily on the Skew Oscillator (log) to confirm momentum before taking a trade.
- Intraday Trading (e.g., 15m – 1h Charts)
Approach: Capture daily directional conviction and avoid market noise.
Recommended Settings:
Use the default/standard parameters (e.g., standard lookback periods like 14 or 20).
Filter/Threshold: Skew > 1.0 (bullish) or Skew < 1.0 (bearish) to identify the primary market regime.
Usage: Use the indicator as a trend filter for your cBots: only take long trades when the Skew Oscillator is above 0, and short trades when it is below 0.
- Swing Trading (e.g., 4h – Daily Charts)
Approach: Identify major structural shifts and sustained volatility dominance.
Recommended Settings:
Increase the lookback periods slightly to smooth out the data and filter minor retracements.
Filter/Threshold: Skew hovering above or below the 1.0 threshold for an extended period, signaling a clear structural bias.
Usage: Combine with structural price levels (support/resistance) to confirm strong directional trends.
The indicator is designed to be used in conjunction with your existing entry and exit logic, rather than as a standalone automated strategy without a trend filter.
