It depends on what you're tuning. Customisation genuinely helps when it's instrument-specific: adjusting the FVG pip filter to match your asset's volatility, setting swing lookback to suit your timeframe, and toggling sessions to only the ones you trade. That sharpens the signals meaningfully.

The risk comes from over-optimising to historical charts. If you tweak settings until past price action looks clean, those parameters often break on live data. Enabling every feature simultaneously (all OBs, FVGs, HTF overlay, all sessions) also creates visual overload that leads to confirmation bias and you'll find a reason to take almost any trade.

Short answer: customise for your instrument and session, not for a perfect-looking backtest.
